Nicolas Froio, PT, DPT, OCS, Cert MDT
Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy
Dr. Froio, one of the principles of SOAR, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kean University in 1998 with an undergraduate degree in Biology and completed his physical therapy training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2000. He then continued his education at UMDNJ with the completion of his clinical doctorate in physical therapy in 2003. Before joining SOAR Physical Therapy in 2001 he worked in an outpatient facility where he treated sports injuries and general orthopedic conditions. As a physical therapist credentialed by the McKenzie Institute, Dr. Froio is recognized for his level of expertise in mechanical diagnosis and therapy, with an emphasis on spinal care rehabilitation. Other areas of his continued education and expertise include manual therapy, post-surgical rehabilitation, general orthopaedics and the treatment of movement impairment syndromes and sport injuries In addition to providing patient care at SOAR, Dr. Froio is responsible for assisting with staff development and supervision. Additionally, he is a clinical instructor for physical therapy students from a wide variety of universities that affiliate with SOAR. He is a member of The American Physical Therapy Association and The McKenzie Institute, USA. He speaks both Spanish and Italian. When not working, Nick is enjoying his immediate and extended family.
Keith Montecalvo, PT, DPT, OCS, Cert MDT, SFMA
Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy
Dr. Montecalvo, one of the principles of SOAR, is a native of The Jersey Shore. He attended High Point University for his undergraduate education, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Sports Medicine. His physical therapy training was at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ where he received his clinical doctorate in physical therapy. The focus of his practice is in orthopaedics, concentrating on spine and sports related injuries. Dr. Montecalvo is credentialed by the McKenzie Institute for his expertise in mechanical diagnosis and therapy, emphasizing spinal care rehabilitation. He is also a member of The American Physical Therapy Association. When not working, Dr. Montecalvo participates in annual walks for multiple sclerosis and 5k’s for many local charities. He enjoys working out at the gym and spending time with his wife and dogs. On occasion, you will even find him playing guitar with a local band.
Nicole Russo, PT, DPT
Dr. Russo completed her undergraduate work in Exercise Science at Georgian Court University before graduating Magna Cum Laude during her physical therapy training at Touro College of Health Sciences in NYC. Before moving her practice to SOAR Physical Therapy she worked for many years in NYC in her careers of physical therapy, as a VIP Manager at the Waldorf Astoria and in the performing arts. The latter includes a career in musical theatre with extensive training in musical theatre, ballet, tap and jazz. Dr. Russo has also worked as a singer/dancer from New York to Florida and has taught dance and theatre locally at the Count Basie Cool School in Red Bank.
It is her passion to continue merging all of her skills and energy into a results focused, fun and personally rewarding career in health and wellness for all ages, as demonstrated by her work at SOAR Physical Therapy and her use of music and dance to create fun and motivation for seniors as she continues conducting exercise programs for them throughout the Shore area.
It is Dr. Russo’s dedication to the geriatric population that led her to further her education in pursuit of a doctorate in physical therapy. She is passionate about reducing fall risks and improving the quality of life for seniors in addition to using her artistic and clinical expertise to rehabilitate dance injuries, chronic pain syndromes, autoimmune diseases, and scoliosis.
In her free time Dr. Russo enjoys spending time with seniors, watching the Yankees and exploring the scenic Jersey Shore.
Elizabeth Horton, PT, DPT, CKTP
Dr. Horton completed both her undergraduate and graduate physical therapy training at Ithaca College, earning her doctorate degree in 2009.
Prior to joining SOAR Physical Therapy, Dr. Horton worked in outpatient settings primarily focusing on general orthopedic, sport & select neurological injuries. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and also has a special interest in oncology rehabilitation.
Dr. Horton is a certified Kinesiotape Practitioner and certified Graston Technique® Provider. Graston Technique® is a non-invasive form of an instrument-assisted mobilization that is successful in effectively treating trigger points, soft tissue fibrosis, scar tissue & fascial restrictions. This is an exclusive technique which fosters healing and is used in combination with a comprehensive physical therapy program to restore range of motion. She is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, and the Kinesiotape Association. As a Credentialed Clinical Instructor, she has a high level of proficiency in mentoring Physical therapy students during Internships.
When not working, Liz enjoys multiple recreational sports including 5K’s and obstacle course races along with traveling and spending time with family & friends.
Tyler Horton, PT, DPT, NCS, MSCS
Board Certified Specialist in Neurological Physical Therapy
Dr. Tyler was born and raised in New England and currently calls Holmdel, NJ home. He graduated from Ithaca College with a doctorate in physical therapy in 2009. He has subsequently received the certification as a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist (MSCS) in 2014 and has been a board certified Neurological Clinical Specialist (NCS) since 2016.
Dr. Tyler has dedicated his entire career to the rehabilitation of individuals that experience neurological diagnoses including stroke, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and many others. He has expertise in seeing these patients across their continuum of care including inpatient rehabilitation, home care and outpatient therapy. Dr. Tyler’s treatment strategies are deeply rooted in the evidence based concepts of motor learning and neuroplasticity. He is certified in performing the LSVT-BIG® program for individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease. In addition, Dr. Tyler is trained in Balance-based Torso Weighting (BBTW®), an intervention geared towards improving stability and decreasing the risk of falls.
When he’s not on the beach in the summertime, Dr. Tyler’s hobbies include tending to his honey bee hives with his wife, working on his motorcycle and building furniture for his home. In order to stay active, he regularly trains for obstacle course events and road races.
Danielle Lichtenfeld, LAc
Danielle Lichtenfeld is a New Jersey State License Acupuncturist and is Nationally Board Certified by the NCCAOM. She received her Master’s level diploma from the Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine in 2013. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University in Psychology. Danielle also received her certification in Holistic Health Counseling from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She is a currently a Reiki II certified practitioner and is trained in Heart Centered Therapy.
Danielle specializes in musculoskeletal and neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis), neuropathy, fertility, digestion, immune health, stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Some of the other conditions treated by Danielle are Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Bells Palsy, fertility/pregnant women induction of labor, post-stroke, weight loss, and smoking cessation/detox.
In conjunction with Acupuncture Danielle also uses Cupping, Tui Na, Gua Sha, Moxibustion, Nutrition, Meditation, Yoga, Electro-Stim Acupuncture, and many other healing modalities to enhance her treatments.
Outside of the office, you will find Danielle doing yoga and going to workshops and continuing education courses in order to expand her personal practice. She also enjoys sharing her active lifestyle with her dog.
